Tom Etling is a Principal in the Advisory Services practice at Brown Smith Wallace, where he leads the Marketing Advisory practice. He has more than 20 years of marketing and communications experience with expertise in health care, higher education, public sector, hospitality, sports and entertainment, consumer products and the financial services industry.
In his role, Tom provides clients with brand management, strategic communications and digital marketing services to complement the compliance and consulting services the Advisory Service practice offers.

Prior to Brown Smith Wallace, Tom served as Partner and CEO for Dovetail, a St. Louis-based brand communications agency. Prior to joining Dovetail, Tom worked as CEO for St. Patrick Center, one of the leading social innovation organizations in the United States. Previously, Tom was Vice President of Marketing for the Gateway Arch and Metro Transit.
In 2009, Tom received the Spirit of St. Louis Award for leading collaborative efforts in the region, including the I-64 highway reconstruction marketing communications collaborative. In 2015, Tom was selected as one of nine Eisenhower Fellows in the United States. Eisenhower Fellowships connect innovative leaders around the globe to create a more peaceful, prosperous and just world. On his fellowship to Ireland and Spain, he studied the impact of large economic development and public private partnership projects, particularly the legacy of the Barcelona Olympic Games. Specifically, he focused on the political, business and cultural factors that facilitated the success and collective impact of game-changing initiatives in those markets.
Tom earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Fontbonne University, the Board of Directors for Citizens for Modern Transit, as well as the President’s Council for Cor Jesu Academy. He’s also active in the St. Louis Sports Commission and Our Lady of the Pillar Catholic School.
