Joel is a Manager in the Tax and Family Wealth Planning Group at Brown Smith Wallace. He has more than nine years of experience specializing in trust, estate, and gift tax planning and compliance.
As a Manager, Joel is responsible for supervising and reviewing fiduciary and individual tax engagements, as well as training and developing tax staff. In addition, he assists in tax consulting and tax planning for high net worth individuals.
Joel began his career servicing medium to small financial institutions and law firms across the country as their outsourced fiduciary tax department where he managed and maintained over 1,500 trust accounts. Returning to St. Louis, he worked in a fiduciary tax department assisting the relationship managers with their individual and fiduciary tax planning and compliance needs. This included planning with split-interest charitable trusts, private foundations, and individual retirement accounts. His work continues to focus on complex trust, estate, gift, and generation-skipping tax planning and compliance issues.
Joel earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance from Loyola University Chicago and a Master of Science in Taxation from DePaul University. He is a licensed CPA in the states of Missouri and Illinois. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants.
