Michelle Howard is a Consulting Manager in the Brown Smith Wallace Advisory Services practice, where she is responsible for assessing client processes, business requirements, data structure and challenges for clients of all sizes. Michelle also helps identify and prioritize opportunities for process improvement and implements process improvement strategies.
Michelle has more than 25 years of experience as an accounting and regulatory compliance professional. Prior to joining Brown Smith Wallace, Michelle spent nearly 20 years at Anheuser-Busch, where she was responsible for approximately $1.7 billion in excise tax payments annually and oversaw the filing of approximately 450 reports each month.
In addition, Michelle has:
- Managed a team responsible for all federal and state excise tax payments and operational reports for macro breweries, craft breweries and Anheuser-Busch distributors.
- Led and coordinated all activities related to federal and state government agency audits, mitigating potential financial exposure and risk with successful audit results.
- Integrated federal and state regulatory compliance, excise tax reporting as well as state and local taxes for craft brewery entities, mitigating reporting and tax payment delinquencies within six months.
- Managed continuous process improvement efforts as well as ERP system implementation and enhancements, which included ensuring systems and sustainable processes met all compliance requirements.
Michelle earned a bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from the University of Missouri-Columbia and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Missouri Society of CPAs (MOCPA).
