John is a Principal in the Tax Services practice of Brown Smith Wallace. He brings more than 15 years of experience as an international tax professional with previous roles in public accounting and large multinational corporations. Responsibilities have included all aspects of the tax lifecycle: planning, modeling, execution, provisioning, reporting and controversy.
John has a proven track record of unlocking value through creative and unique planning. He has recovered hundreds of millions of dollars in cash refunds and created billions of dollars in value over his career.

Prior to joining the firm, John served as Director of Planning and International Tax at Peabody Energy. During this time, he led the development, investigation and execution of tax planning opportunities on a global scale while overseeing international tax compliance in the US and foreign jurisdictions.
John’s prior experience includes being an integral member of the National R&D Credit team at Grant Thornton and working on a full spectrum of clients and projects while at KPMG.
A licensed attorney, John earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
