Tax Reform: Impact and Fundraising Opportunities
On February 21, 2018, and February 28, 2018, Brown Smith Wallace hosted the NPO Speaker Series event, “Tax Reform: Impact and Fundraising Opportunities,” where panelists Jen Vacha, Tax Principal at Brown Smith Wallace, Donna Frederick, Giving Strategist at the St. Louis Community Foundation and Kristi Meyers Gallup, Consultant and Founder of Your Philanthropy, LLC, discussed tax legislation's impact on nonprofit organizations and strategies for approaching fundraising in 2018.
During the panel, Jen led an in-depth discussion about many of the major and minor changes as a direct result of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), including changes to unrelated business income (UBI) activities, and changes to the standard deduction and reduction in tax rates at the individual and corporate levels. Discussion with Donna and Kristi centered around strategies for fundraising and development professionals in 2018, including ways to approach generational challenges with charitable giving.
