In 2018, Forbes ranked St. Louis number two in its inaugural list of rising startup cities that are “poised to thrive in the decades ahead.”
“People are noticing you can build real companies here,” said Tom Hillman, General Partner at Lewis & Clark Ventures.
Hillman was one of four St. Louis startup community leaders that participated in a panel discussion on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, to discuss the results of the 2018 Brown Smith Wallace St. Louis Region Startup Community Survey. The panel also included Amelia Bond, President and CEO of the St. Louis Community Foundation; Emily Lohse-Busch, Executive Director of Arch Grants; and Chris Motley, Founder and CEO of Better Weekdays.
Moderated by Cathy Goldsticker, Brown Smith Wallace Tax Partner and Startup Industry Group Leader, the panel discussion centered around the panelists’ insights on key themes from survey results—the importance of a startup’s leadership team, what return on investment investors should expect, how equity impacts a startup’s success, demographics of investors and investment targets, and the outlook for startups in St. Louis.
