Robert Haggerty Promoted to Partner-in-Charge of Tax

(ST. LOUIS, July 1, 2021) Robert Haggerty, CPA, formerly a partner in the Tax practice and the Real Estate Industry Group Leader, has been promoted to Partner-in-Charge of Tax at Brown Smith Wallace. Effective July 1, Haggerty assumes responsibility for overall client service and technical oversight of the tax practice, as well as training staff on best practices and new tax developments. As Brown Smith Wallace combines with and becomes Armanino effective August 1, 2021, Haggerty will become the St. Louis Market Leader for the tax practice.

Haggerty has assumed the Partner-in-Charge role previously held by Martin Doerr, who announced his plan to retire last year. In anticipation of Doerr’s impending retirement, Haggerty has worked closely with Doerr and the entire firm over the last six months to ensure a seamless transition. Once Brown Smith Wallace joins Armanino, Haggerty will lead the St. Louis tax team with a leadership role in the broader Armanino footprint, accelerating growth opportunities for clients and team members.

“Marty joined the firm at a critical point in its growth, and helped to build one of the largest, most diverse tax teams based in the St. Louis region,” said Tony Caleca, Managing Partner of Brown Smith Wallace and future Midwest Market Leader of Armanino. “Rob ascends to this leadership role at yet another critical point in the firm’s history as we join Armanino and expand to serve current and future clients with deeper expertise and national resources.”

Haggerty specializes in tax strategy, tax controversy, accounting for income taxes, tax accounting methods, inventory, partnerships, real estate, 1031 exchange programs and fixed asset matters. He has more than 25 years of experience as a tax professional, with extensive expertise in the retail, real estate and cannabis industries. At Brown Smith Wallace, Haggerty leads the Cost Segregation practice, the Real Estate Industry Group and the Cannabis & Hemp Industry Group. Haggerty is a member of the Steering Committee of the Moore North America Tax Community Group and is the former Chair of the Moore North America Real Estate Industry Group.

A licensed CPA, Haggerty earned a BSBA degree in Accounting from the University of Missouri – St. Louis where he is currently a member of the Accounting Advisory Board. He is a board member and Treasurer of Massas Creek Companion Animals, a no-kill animal shelter located in Warren County, Missouri, and a board member of the Snow Foundation, a collective voice working toward a cure for Wolfram syndrome and novel therapies for Wolfram related symptoms.  Haggerty is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants.
