Former Missouri and St. Charles County Health Director Joins Brown Smith Wallace
Julie Eckstein joins firm as Principal, Health Care Advisory Services
ST. LOUIS (October 2, 2014) Julie Eckstein joins Brown Smith Wallace as Principal in the firm’s Health Care Advisory Services practice. Eckstein was most recently the director of St. Charles County’s Department of Community Health and the Environment. Eckstein brings more than 30 years of experience in community and public health, health care delivery and health policy at local, state and national levels.

Eckstein’s experience includes health care consulting and serving as vice president and state policy director for the Center for Health Transformation (CHT), involving key political leaders Newt Gingrich (founder) and Tom Daschle and national health care executives. Her areas of focus included ACOs, transformational delivery systems, long term living, price and quality transparency, consumer engagement and payment reform. In 2005, Governor Matt Blunt appointed her as director of the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, where she managed a budget of over $800 million, was a key member of the Medicaid Reform Commission and led Missouri’s first HIT task force.

Eckstein brings clinical experience in area hospitals, has been a regular guest lecturer at several universities, has spoken nationally on topics including health reform, payment reform, public health and Health Information Technology (HIT), and has been a board member and consultant for many chambers, health care corporations, and nonprofit boards and organizations. She has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a Master of Business Administration from the Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis.
