Brown Smith Wallace CPA Honored as “Woman to Watch” by MSCPA
Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants recognizes Karen Stern as an Experienced Leader in the Accounting Profession
ST. LOUIS (November 16, 2010) Karen Stern, member in charge of BSW Small Business Services LLC, an affiliated company of Brown Smith Wallace LLC, has been recognized by the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA) as a Woman to Watch in the Experienced Leader category.
“We are proud of Karen and her accomplishments,” said Harvey Wallace, managing member at Brown Smith Wallace. “She is deserving of this honor as a leader both in our firm and in the St. Louis community.”
Stern was hand-selected by the firm’s founders to lead BSW Small Business Services. Under her guidance, the small bookkeeping business has grown into a profitable and successful firm. Stern, who has more than 20 years of public accounting experience, works with a wide variety of privately-owned small businesses, providing individualized tax consulting, planning and compliance services.
She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants. She is also a QuickBooks ProAdvisor. She pioneered the implementation of flextime at Brown Smith Wallace. Her community involvement includes Give Kids a Smile, the efforts of Congregation B’Nai Amoona and the St. Louis Jewish Community Center. Stern is a graduate of the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.
Stern joins fellow Brown Smith Wallace partners Cathy Goldsticker and Robin Bell as recent winners of this award.
The CPA Women-to-Watch program recognizes women who have made significant contributions as leaders in the accounting industry and have advanced to the highest levels of management within the profession. Criteria include the mentoring of other professionals, public or community service, leadership in workplace initiatives and improvements, involvement with their alma mater and overall contributions to the profession.
The program, sponsored by the MSCPA in partnership with the American Institute of CPAs Women’s Initiatives Executive Committee and Robert Half International, donates $2,500 to the MSCPA LEAP Scholarship Fund in the winners’ names.
