many groups and industries develop forums for the discussion
of business and industry related issues. These unique
consortia provide an opportunity to interact with leading
executives in an environment where the normal competitive
barriers are relaxed.
What is an executive
roundtable?
An executive roundtable is a group of eight to 12 organizations
whose top executives are willing to participate in organized
regularly-scheduled meetings.
Often these groups become informal boards of directors.
They meet on a regular basis to challenge and support each
other in the operations of their businesses. In the meetings,
they share experiences, results and problems. These groups
are built with non-competing participants.
As a group, they support each other in the resolution of
issues and as a friendly and trusted set of ears that will
provide honest feedback in all kinds of situations.
Other groups are created within an industry. Here, care
is taken to protect the participants from legal issues related
to restraint of trade. Within those boundaries, the group
is able to discuss general topics that affect them all. As
a group, actions can be taken to advance the industry in
general.
With either type of group, roundtable meetings force otherwise “up
to their ears” executives to spend quality -- and regular--
time working on the business instead of just in the business.
Who normally needs executive
roundtable services?
- Any executive who does not have an outside board of directors
to provide perspective in analyzing issues, people and
results.
- Any industry group that is facing critical issues such
as standardization, government regulation, technical interoperability
or massive change.
- Someone with an open mind who is willing to help others
in order to get help for their own issues. Very few organizations
go looking for this type of help. Once introduced to the
concept, the meetings often become very important and the
kind that are rarely missed.
When might I need executive
roundtable services?
All the time.
What are the client requirements?
- A willingness to commit to regularly scheduled meetings.
- Attendance is necessary as much to support the others
as to get support for oneself.
